Chaos broke out two hours ago on the streets of the Maharashtran state capital, Mumbai in India.

Two hotels, a hospital, a number of public transportation terminals, a dockyard and a movie theatre are among the locations in Mumbai that are currently under siege by a number of terrorists armed with AK47s and grenades.  The attacks are concentrated in a 5 kilometre square area.

Witness reports indicate that a police van has been hijacked and is now being used to flee the scene.  Local news stations are reporting uncounted numbers of dead citizens in the streets of Mumbai.

Terrorists are throwing bombs or hand grenades from the window of their Oberio Hotel and firing indiscriminately on people in the streets.  Police report that the hotel is currently 80% evacuated.  The PM of India, Manmohan Singh, has promised quick assistance by all armed forces divisions.

This is reminiscient of the 1993 terrorist attacks in south-Bombay which targeted seemingly safe areas.

A taxi, laden with ammuniton found in suburbs.  Officials fear the attacks will be spreading into the suburbs.

2 terrorists have been shot dead.

Terrorists who entered Oberio hotel carried several sacks feared to contain large explosives.

A Marriot hotel is now under attack.

Explosives in sack have been detonated in Oberio Hotel and Taj hotel.  Three very large blasts.

Terrorists are specifically targeting Western tourists, checking passports, forcing hotel staff to give room numbers of Westerners currently checked in.  All the hostages have been mustered into one area in the hotels which is making the situation very difficult for local law enforcements.

Indian paramilitary forces are on their way to Mumbai to take over the situation.

Over 55 are now confirmed dead, almost 200 injured.  The army is on its way.

Just a quick update…due to circumstances significantly beyond our control, the Taser demo that we discussed earlier will not be happening on Thursday of next week.  As soon as we have more information as to when it will be occuring, we will let you know!

Well, you all asked for it…and here it is.
Next Thursday (November 27) I (Paul) will be tasered by a member of the Edmonton Police Service.  This, however, won’t be like the taser videos you can find on YouTube…I will be actively engaging an EPS member in a heightened physical state.  And they’ve agreed to taser me more than once if I can get back up and keep going…  You can read the details in the press release we sent out below.

HOWEVER! We need your help.  Constable Tassone with the EPS has offered to answer any questions about Tasers or their uses that you might have.  PLEASE post comments with your questions below (for obvious reasons, he cannot answer any questions relating to ongoing investigations).  Or comment with what you think about the whole thing.  Am I crazy?  Will this be useful information?  Might this change your opinions about Taser use?  I guess we’ll see…

LOCAL PODCASTER TO BE TASERED IN REAL WORLD SITUATION

Edmonton, AB, November 18, 2008 — A locally produced podcast has
teamed up with the Edmonton Police Service in a live demonstration of
a Taser in a real-world situation.  Co-host of SomethingTV, Paul Ney,
will engage an EPS member while in a heightened physical state before
being shot with the 50,000 volt device next Thursday at the EPS
training centre east of Edmonton.

SomethingTV is a weekly current events podcast that has received
viewership from as far away as Iraq and Australia.  The show presents
relevant news in a relaxed, discussion-based environment, allowing
greater interaction with its viewers.  Much of this interaction
centres around hot topics like Taser use.

“People are polarized on the issue of Tasers in the police force,”
says Evan Adnams, the other co-host of SomethingTV. “With all the hype
around drug-induced frenzies, we wanted to see - and show our viewers
- what happens to a normal person in these scenarios.”  While the
objective for Paul Ney is to try and re-engage the officer after the
first shot, neither host knows how he will react to the first jolt.

“We want to see what it takes for someone to continue on after being
hit with a Taser,” says Paul Ney, referring to recent incidents
involving Taser-use. “If I can’t keep going after one shot, that will
say something.”

Paul Ney will spar with one or more individuals to increase his heart
rate and produce adrenaline, simulating the physical condition of
those who are typically tasered by police.  He will be free to try and
continue after being hit the first time or to give up at any point -
much different from demonstrations which typically involve a
stationary subject being supported by more than one other person.
